Dia 1 

20 dias, 3 biomas diferentes e mais de 7.000 km para percorrer ... a aventura começou! O IPBio - Instituto de Pesquisa da Biodiversidade tem como objetivo instalar centros de pesquisa em todos os principais biomas do Brasil, como Mata Atlântica, Amazônia, Cerrado, Pantanal e Caatinga. O IPBio já possui um centro de pesquisa totalmente estabelecido e em funcionamento na Mata Atlântica chamado IPBio - Reserva Betary e o fundador do IPBio, Sérgio Pompéia, já adquiriu reservas na Amazônia e no Cerrado. Com a aquisição dessas duas novas reservas, surgiu uma idéia, uma que os biólogos geralmente apenas sonham. Viagem por três dos principais biomas do Brasil coletando material biológico e capturando imagens das maravilhosas paisagens e da vida silvestre ao longo do caminho.

No primeiro dia, Henrique Domingos, biólogo do IPBio, e Imran Viroomal, coordenador do programa de voluntariado do IPBio, deixaram suas casas em Iporanga, a 6 km da Reserva Betary, para embarcar no primeiro trecho da jornada para a casa de Sérgio Pompéia, em Cotia no Renault Kwid de Imran equipado com lanches, música e suas malas. Henrique beijou sua filha e namorada, de quem sentiria muita falta, enquanto Imran se despediu de seu gato (namorada na Holanda). Com 320 km para percorrer neste primeiro trecho da viagem, parecia uma coisinha de nada em comparação com a viagem que estava à frente.

Por volta das 19h, Sérgio nos recebeu em sua casa e nos instalamos e depois corremos para pegar pizzas com o objetivo de jantar rapidamente e depois descansar para enfrentar as 14 horas de carro no dia seguinte. Ao voltar para a casa de Sérgio, Toka e Renato Brunelo estavam esperando para se juntar a nós para jantar. Uma garrafa de vinho foi aberta. E depois outra. Por volta da meia-noite, Sérgio finalmente se levantou e anunciou: "Eu preciso dormir".

Day 1 

20 days, 3 different biomes and over 7,000km to drive… the adventure is on! IPBio – Biodiversity Research Institute aims set up research centers in all the major biomes of Brazil namely the Atlantic Forest, Amazon, Cerrado, Pantanal and Caatinga. IPBio already has a fully established and functioning research center in the Atlantic Forest named IPBio – Reserva Betary and the founder of IPBio, Sérgio Pompéia, has already purchased reserves in the Amazon and Cerrado. With the acquisition of these two new reserves an idea was born, one that biologists usually only dream of. Travel through 3 of Brazil´s major biomes collecting biological material and capturing images of the wonderful landscapes and wildlife along the way.

The first day saw Henrique Domingos, biologist of IPBio, and Imran Viroomal, volunteer coordinator of IPBio, leave their homes in Iporanga, located 6km away from the Reserve Betary, to embark on the first stretch of the journey to Sérgio Pompéia´s house in Cotia in Imran´s Renault Kwid equipped with snacks, music and their suitcases. Henrique tearfully kissed his daughter and girlfriend who he would miss sorely, while Imran waved his cat goodbye (the girlfriends in Holland). With 320km to go in this first stretch of the trip, it seemed like a little blip compared to the driving that laid ahead.

At around 7pm Sérgio welcomed us to his home and we quickly settled in and then rushed off to pick up pizzas with the aim to have a quick dinner and then rest up for the 12 hour drive the next day. On returning to Sérgio house, Toka and Renato were waiting to join us for dinner. A bottle of wine was opened. And then another. At around midnight Sérgio finally stood up and announced “I need to go to sleep”.
